PACK IN PACK OUT 

Help keep Auckland's Waitematā Harbour beautiful.

With the influx of people to the Hauraki Gulf islands over summer, the council encourages day visitors coming by boat or ferry to ‘pack in and pack out’ and take their waste with them when they go.

If people are visiting one of the islands for a day, we’re asking people to take their waste home with them and dispose of it responsibly, in their rubbish or recycling bins.

Anamata Community Recycling Centre

Discover the wonders of the Anamata Community Recycling Centre where you can drop off unwanted items and materials for reuse and recycling.

With a shop onsite, which sells household goods, building materials, and upcycled crafts and treasures you can keep yourself entertained for hours. 

Aotea Transfer Station

Aotea Transfer Station is a place that accepts and treats waste before disposing it into landfill or recycling the materials.

With Claris Landfill was nearing capacity, Aotea Transfer Station encourage everyone to do all they can to recycle and divert rubbish from landfill, so we achieve our goal of zero waste to landfill by 2040.

There are limited waste services on the islands within the Hauraki Gulf.

We encourage all boaties and visitors to reduce the amount of waste they bring to the islands by planning
ahead, removing items from packaging before visiting, and making use of reusable containers, drink bottles
and coffee cups wherever possible. Please minimise your waste.
