FOOD SCRAPS COLLECTION

Give us your rukenga kai (food scraps) and we will turn them into clean energy and liquid fertiliser to grow more kai.

We are aiming for zero waste by 2040 and keeping your food scraps out of the rubbish is a great way you can help.

The food scraps collection service rolled out across mainland urban Auckland throughout 2023. Since the start of collections, you’ve kept nine million kilograms of food scraps out of landfill and counting.

Each residential home within the collection area received a green lidded food scraps bin, a kitchen caddy, a starter set of compostable bin liners, and an information brochure.

FOOD WASTE - SCRAP THAT!

Auckland Council’s goal is to have one uniform system for all their residential waste services across Auckland. Part of this mission involved rolling out a food scrap collection service Auckland wide.

Auckland Council conducted several service trials throughout the region to understand existing and potential product utility to optimise the food waste collection program and increase engagement.

THINK PINK COUNCIL COMPOSTABLE BIN LINERS

Council compostable bin liners are easy to use, they don’t take up much space in your kitchen, keep your food scraps caddy clean and tidy and help keep the smells away.
