The Koha Café at Papatūānuku Kōkiri Marae is serving up delicious healthy food in Māngere, while reducing waste and nourishing the earth. Supported with funding from Auckland Council and lead by the team at Papatūānuku Marae, the café upcycles surplus food destined for landfill, turning it into nourishing meals. The café then composts any food scraps left over, which is then used to grow more food onsite in the extensive māra (garden). The Koha Cafe is an exemplar of a circular, zero waste system in action.
